1 September 2026: The King-Smith group welcomes a new PhD student: Miri Christie-Mann. Miri will be will be working on deep learning for chemical comprehension.

1 August 2026: We are delighted to annouce that Emma has been successful her Royal Society URF funding bid - "Machine Learning-Guided Organic Synthesis". Recruitment will begin soon!
25 May 2026: The King-Smith Group says goodbye to our two undergraduate researchers: Bart and Qingyi! Thank you for your hard work this past year! We also welcome Ahlam Alrashidi, our PGT student who will be working with Julia Russ for her summer project.
19 May 2026: Our New Investigator Award "Re-Envisioning Bioisostere Design with Diffusion Machine Learning" has just been awarded!
12 January 2026: We wish farewell to Jackson as he wraps up his project! Have a wonderful time back in Canberra.
30 September 2025: A new opportunity for data scientists! Our group has a fully-funded 3.5 year PhD studentship available. Details can be found here and on our Positions page. The deadline to submit is the 3rd of December at 5 pm.
15 September 2025: We welcome two new students to the group - Bart Kowal and Qingyi Zhu! Bart will be working on reaction outcome prediction of radical-mediated transformations and Qingyi will be researching chiral molecule embeddings.
8 September 2025: The group welcomes Jackson Stamper, a visiting student from the Australian National University! Jackson will be working on ML-assisted structural elucidation.
1 September 2025: We say goodbye to Lupei who is now off traveling around Europe and welcome two new co-supervised PhD students: Fletcher Sharp, our joint-PhD student with the Lawrence group, and Elisa Mathieu, a joint student with the Thomas group. Fletcher will be working on ML-assisted total synthesis of dimer natural products and Elisa will be applying data-driven techniques to green catalysis methodology.
1 June 2025: We welcome Lupei Deng to the group as a Post Graduate Taught (PGT) student! Lupei will be working in our group for the next 10 weeks to gain experience in data-driven analytical chemistry.
1 Apr 2025: We welcome Julia Russ to the group! Julia is funded through our prestigious Brian R. Phillips Scholarship and will be working on reaction outcome prediction.
10 Mar 2025: The start of a new collaboration! We are delighted to announce that we have a fully funded joint PhD studentship for UK students with the Lawrence Group in ML-guided total synthesis. Details can be found here. The deadline to apply is 4 April 2025.
27 Feb 2025: We have just been awarded our first grant as an independent group! The Royal Society has funded our Research Grant in "Explainable Reaction Prediction with QSAR-Inspired Machine Learning".
